"Tanya", who identified herself as 27 years old ("My age - 27 years, dark hair, color of eyes blue. My height is 5 5 and my weight is 130 lbs"), responded to a personal ad I had in Yahoo Personals in July, 2004 and "corresponded" with me for about three months. The last message was mine to her in November, 2004, when I told her i had seen letters almost identical in wording to ones she wrote me on the internet, addressed to people like "dave".
For the first six weeks "Tanya" would write to me once or twice a week. With about five messages she attached what she said were photos of herself. In each case she looked attractive. (In one she was in a bikini.) There was a period of about four weeks during this period when she did not write, then gave some not-too-plausible explanation of why she did not write. ("... Excuse me I could not write to you earlier. I had problems with health. To me have performed operation on eyes. The matter is that I had a small trauma. To me in an eye the small piece of a glass has got. It has taken off from under wheels of quickly going machine. To me has got in an eye. But do not worry now all well. ")
Though I had some doubts from the 2nd message onwards, i corresponded out of curiousity. (I saw warnings from websites discussing such scams to "send money under no conditions.") About 4-6 weeks into the exchange I started checking scam sites. When, after after two months she declared she was wanting to get a visa and visit me, she requested $300 to cover the visa expense. On this occasion she supplied very specific information, including (for the first time) a last name. she gave the address and precise details for sending money to Western Union. Now that I had her last name as well as first i was able to do a search linking her full name to "scam" and was brought to your site immediately.Irwin
